The CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People is a one-year, part-time qualification designed for qualified counsellors who want to specialise in therapeutic work with clients aged 11–18. It offers the opportunity to build on existing skills while gaining the knowledge and confidence to work safely and effectively in this complex and rewarding field.
Grounded in a relational and integrative approach, the course focuses on the emotional worlds of children and young people, including key developmental, systemic, and cultural factors. You’ll explore areas such as attachment, trauma, neurodiversity, risk and resilience, and safeguarding, while continuing to deepen your capacity for reflective, ethical practice.
Learning is highly experiential and collaborative, with an emphasis on creative and age-appropriate ways of working. You’ll engage in case study presentations, group process, and personal development work—all within a supportive environment that values lived experience, curiosity, and professional integrity.
Our CYP-L5 learners come from a range of backgrounds and settings, bringing insight and passion to the learning community. The course provides both the challenge and the care needed to grow your competence and confidence in working therapeutically with young people.
Graduates of this course are equipped to work in schools, colleges, charities, and private practice, and are well-positioned for roles involving specialist youth counselling, safeguarding leadership, or therapeutic service delivery. At BGTC, we are committed to nurturing skilled, attuned practitioners who make a real difference in young people’s lives.
